Skylights

Repair, Replace, And New Installation.

Skylights are a great way to let natural light flood into your property. They are also a great way to improve the ventilation in your home and improve the overall atmosphere of your home. Skylights come in three different types: fixed skylights, venting skylights, and sun tunnels. Below we will discuss the benefits of each type of skylight and help you decide which one is best for you!

4 Types Of Skylights

Fixed skylights are the most common type of skylight. They are simply glass windows set on a roof in the same orientation. As sometimes referred to as roof windows, they are suitable for any domestic property with a traditional pitched roof. They are commonly used in lofts, hallways, and bedrooms. They are called fixed skylights because they don’t open like a venting skylight would.

Vented skylights can come in all of the standard sizes that regular skylights come in. But the venting skylights will open either via a solar powered remote opener or manual opener. Because of the features that allow the skylight to open, the cost of these tend to be a bit more expensive than a regular skylight. But the added benefit of fresh air is worth the investment. An added benefit for venting skylights is that they can be installed on most slops, so if your roof is at a lower angle or almost vertically pitched, we can install skylights that open for you.

Sun Tunnel skylights are different from what most people are used to when it comes to skylights. Their purpose is to let sunlight in, mimicking the appearance of a normal light. But you can’t see out of them. The opening inside the house is covered with a unique frame that disperses the light. But the opening on the roof is clear to absorb all the sunlight possible.

Custom Skylights

In some circumstances a standard skylight might not fit your home or you might be interested in a larger skylight to accentuate the look and feel of your home. In either case, the best option will be to have a custom skylight made. This process would begin with getting the exact measurements needed for the opening of your home. We would then have the manufacturer build the skylight to fit exactly as needed.

An added bonus to custom skylights is that you can even get the glass tinted. Be sure to ask our representatives about all the skylight options available.

VELUX Windows is a more advanced type of roof window. They come with a variety of features like solar-powered blinds, rain sensors, and automatic opening/closing mechanisms. VELUX windows are suitable for any property with a pitched roof, but they are especially well-suited for loft conversions or attic rooms.

Benefits

  • Natural Light: VELUX windows allow natural light to flood into your home, which can brighten up your interior and reduce your need for artificial lighting.
  • Ventilation: VELUX windows also improve ventilation in your home, which can help reduce humidity and improve air quality.
  • Solar-Powered Blinds: VELUX windows come with solar-powered blinds that automatically adjust to the amount of sunlight entering the window. This helps to keep your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
  • Rain Sensors: VELUX windows come with rain sensors that automatically close the window if it begins to rain. This helps to keep your home dry and prevent water damage.
  • Automatic Opening/Closing Mechanism: VELUX windows come with an automatic opening/closing mechanism that allows you to open or close the window with the touch of a button. This makes it easy to let in fresh air or close out bad weather without having to go outside!

Skylights on a flat roof are also common and in most cases, the type of skylight you can have on your pitch roof can also be installed on a flat roof. The only main difference is the way it is attached and flashed to the roof. A flat roof skylight or flat roof window, as some like to call it, requires a custom built curb and custom flashing. Compared to a skylight that is made for a pitched roof, which comes with a manufactured designed flashing kit.
